Narathiwat is one of the southern provinces (changwat) of Thailand.  The neighboring provinces are (of al western to the right) Yala and Pattani.  Al south it borders Malaya. 

The name Narathiwat signifies The residence of good people. 

The province is located in the coast of the Gulf of Thailand in the Malayan Peninsula. 

Narathiwat is one of the four Thai provinces that have a Moslem majority, 82% is Moslem and only 17,9% is buddhist.  Also 80,4% speech the Malayan language.
