Yala is the province of the south extreme (changwat) of Thailand.  The neighboring provinces are (of the northwest to the right) Songkhla, Pattani and Narathiwat.  The southern borders of part Malaya. 

In the Malayan Language, the province is written also as Jolor. 

Yala is one of the four provinces of Thailand where the majority of the population is Moslem, composing 68,9% from to the population.  Also 66,1% of the population is Malaya.
