The province is located in the western side of the Malayan Peninsula, and includes many islands in the Sea of Andaman.  The very famous one one is the Island call of the Bond of Marmalades, a needle formed stone of limestone in the sea, that represented in the movie The Man with the Golden Rifle.  The Phang-Nga of Ao (the Bay of Phang-Nga) the National Park was established in 1981 in protecting the many fascinating islands.  The Islands of Similan, one of Thailand to plunge main the destiny, they are also splits of the province of Phang Nga.

In the 18th century there were three cities of the comparable position in the area - Takuapa, Takuatung and Phang Nga.  The city Phang Nga was created probably in 1809 during the Branch King reign II, during one of the wars with neighboring Burma.  The city Thalang in the island of Phuket was devastated, and the citizens were orderly to transfer to Phang Nga.  To reinforce the defense in the strategic important area in 1840 Phang Nga came be a province, and Takuatung they were reduced in the position as a district.  In 1931 Takuapa was incorporated also in the province.

December 26, 2004 Phang Nga was one of the places struck hard by a tsunami that continues the 2004 earthquake of Ocean I Indicate.  The province was probably the hardest blow in Thailand.  Thousands died, inclusive Bhumi Jensen, the grandson of the King of Thailand.
